Cost Of Energy Bills Hitting Some More Than Others

Another day and yet another story about the high cost of energy for UK families. Research carried out has found that certain families are paying up to £330 per year more on their energy bills than families who consume the same amount of energy, incredible but true.

The IPPR think-tank estimates that there are at least 5.6 million people being affected by this huge problem which they say is occurring due to the larger energy companies out pricing their smaller counterparts, preventing them from gaining any sort of foothold in the energy market.

The new Energy and Climate Change Minister Ed Davey has pledged to do something about it, saying that the high price of energy bills is one of his top priorities. There is also pressure being put on by the Labour Party and the energy regulator Ofgem to ensure more fair play amongst suppliers.

The reluctance of people to switch suppliers has also been mentioned as a possible explanation for this news; this is despite the introduction of price comparison sites online and a range of tariffs amongst most suppliers.

Anyone who finds themselves in fuel poverty and whom simply cannot afford to heat their home at rate they can afford should shop around as very often you will be able to find a tariff that suits you better financially. The numbers of tariffs being offered by companies are slowly reducing as they look to prevent confusion amongst consumers so efforts to find a good deal will be rewarded.

There are also ways of modifying your home to try and bring down the cost of energy. Installing double glazing in Ashford is an obvious place to start as new windows can help better insulate your home and will get rid of all those annoying draughts. Insulating your loft and even putting tin foil on the back of your radiators to reflect heat back into the home are even worth a try.

In addition to making your home warmer but without it costing you a fortune, you should always do your best to ensure that appliances, lights, TV’s etc. are always switched off when not in use. Leaving things on standby could be heavily contributing to your bills so before you go to bed last thing at night have a good look round.

Then set you can set about making your home as comfortable as any conservatories in Chatham or conservatories in Ashford.
