A bi-fold threshold plays a crucial role in facilitating smooth movement of the door carriage when opening and closing. Origin recommends the utilisation of a weathered or ‘rebated’ threshold. This type of threshold can be embedded into the floor, resulting in a minimal lip measuring only 14mm between the outside to the inside. The design of this threshold allows the bottom seal of the bi-fold door to compress against the lip, creating a secure seal with weatherproof integrity.

On the other hand, non-weathered thresholds offer a flat transition between the interior and exterior spaces. While they lack a raised section, they do not provide optimal weather performance. The absence of a solid lip for the door seal to compress against compromises their ability to effectively withstand harsh weather conditions. These thresholds are best suited for internal or sheltered areas where weather exposure is not a concern.
