The capacity to push them out of the way maximises the view of your garden, and that view remains spectacular upon the closure of the door.

They’re an incredible feat of engineering, with the various panels working perfectly in tandem each time you get the privilege of operating their design.

The smooth manoeuvring of a bi-folding door, as you open and close it, is facilitated by the threshold of the design. On the recommendation of Origin, you’re suggested to select a weathered or ‘rebated’ threshold. Once this is embedded into the floor, it leaves a lip of only 14mm, and helps the bottom seal of the bi-fold to compress against it for a weatherproof seal.

A flat transition from indoors to outdoors is achievable with a non-weathered threshold, but with no raised section, there’s no lip for the door seal to compress against. The danger with this is that with no weatherproof seal, the bi-folding door is less able to cope with exposure to inclement weather. Non-weathered thresholds are best reserved for door applications in internal or sheltered areas of a building.
