Consumers have recently been out in force campaigning for VAT to be cut from the cost of energy bills as increasing numbers find themselves living in fuel poverty. VAT on energy bills is currently at 5%. Doing away with VAT could drag up to a quarter of a million people out of fuel poverty and cut up to £60 off the cost of monthly energy bills.
However, it has been discovered that EU legislation states that the UK has no right to 0% VAT on energy bills after the Conservative Government of John Major agreed to such a deal back in 1992.
This will come as a huge blow to those homeowners who were clinging on to the hope that a cut in VAT would ease their energy and financial worries. This latest news confirms that there will be no respite in energy bills in the near future which then…
Continue To Full StoryAnother day and yet another story about the high cost of energy for UK families. Research carried out has found that certain families are paying up to £330 per year more on their energy bills than families who consume the same amount of energy, incredible but true.
The IPPR think-tank estimates that there are at least 5.6 million people being affected by this huge problem which they say is occurring due to the larger energy companies out pricing their smaller counterparts, preventing them from gaining any sort of foothold in the energy market.
The new Energy and Climate Change Minister Ed Davey has pledged to do something about it, saying that the high price of energy bills is one of his top priorities. There is also pressure being put on by the Labour Party and the energy regulator Ofgem to ensure more fair play amongst suppliers.
The reluctance of people…

Continue To Full StoryThe rising levels of fuel poverty, energy prices and hypothermia has led to consumer experts uSwitch to campaign for VAT to be ditched from energy bills. The current rate of VAT on gas and electricity bills is 5%. uSwitch suggest that if VAT were to be scrapped then it would result in up to 250,000 households being taken out of fuel poverty and an overall drop in the cost of energy.
Ann Robinson, Director of Consumer Policy at uSwitch, said: “Removing VAT from our energy bills would help to alleviate the growing financial pressure that consumers are coming under, enable many more to keep warm in the winter and snatch 250,000 households from the grip of fuel poverty.
“When added to the recent £34 price cut made by suppliers, the removal of VAT would see household energy bills tumble by almost £100 a year.
“I would urge the Government to consider this…
Continue To Full StoryThe dominance of large-scale energy companies such as British Gas, E.ON, Scottish Power has led to them being christened the Big Six. The vast majority of UK homeowners receive household energy from one of these companies at the moment, but could things be about to change?
uSwitch has discovered that 35,500 UK households switched to small energy companies e.g. Park Energy, Utilita, Green Energy UK, LoCO2 Energy , Co-operative Energy, amongst many others in the past month alone. Increased calls from consumer experts encouraging people to switch providers in order to save money are no doubt a key factor in this momentous swing.
Many of the people who have switched will have been extremely loyal to their energy supplier but reached a point where they simply cannot afford to stay with them and have found a better deal for themselves elsewhere.
However, the Big Six are beginning to fight…
Continue To Full StoryA price war is set to break out amongst the UKs major energy suppliers, not only amongst the big six, but also amongst the smaller energy companies who are desperately trying to end the dominance of British Gas, Eon, Scottish Power etc. Several companies have already announced their planned cuts, with others set to follow suit shortly. However you can cut your own energy bills simply by replacing any old windows in your home.
Generating your own electricity is a cost-effective solution to high energy bills but renewable energy is out of the financial reach of many which is why a new set of windows are a far more realistic proposition.
Double glazing in Maidstone and double glazing in Chatham will enable you to dramatically cut the cost of heating bills permanently as they are far more effective at utilising and storing warm air than a…

Continue To Full StoryWe rely on and expect our homes to provide us with the warmth we need whenever we spend time indoors out of the cold. But if your windows are poor when it comes to insulation you will regularly notice that draughts from the outdoors can easily creep into your living quarters. No-one should be expected to live in a chilly household which is why Eden Windows urges anyone in this situation to replace their windows.
Double glazing in Dartford and double glazing in Kent should be commonplace as it prevents cold air from getting into your home. What many people don’t realise is that an estimated 25% of heat lost from the home can be put down to the poor performance of their windows. They are also chiefly responsible for those expensive energy bills they receive. This awkward situation will be reversed when you make an…
Continue To Full StoryHave you recently stood opposite your home and viewed what other people see each and every time they come across it? If you have not, then it is highly recommended that you do. They say that you should not judge a book by its cover, but we are all guilty of it especially if we see a home that does not offer the overall aesthetic appeal that you would expect.
The windows of a home are often one of the main areas where wear and tear is most prominent. If you have old traditional windows installed you will only be too aware of how easily they fade, crack and rot over time. This can lead them to becoming unsightly and can spoil the entire aesthetics of your home unless you undertake regular maintenance in the form of repainting.
Rather than accept this as being the norm you should get the…
Continue To Full StoryIncreasing number of British householders are being forced into fuel poverty because of the rising cost of energy. In 2011, all the major energy suppliers have raised their prices and this had a huge knock-on effect on homeowners finances, forcing many to go without fuel even when they need it most. There are ways of solving the problem
Anyone who finds themselves in this difficult position is encouraged to shop around for a cheaper energy tariff as you should never settle for the first energy quote you receive. Very often you will find that you can find a better deal.
Once you have found the best available tariff for your energy usage throughout the year you then need to pay attention to the windows you already have installed. Around 25% of heat lost from the home is due to poorly-insulated windows, so if you find that your windows are letting…
